Cheng Hoon Teng Temple is a remarkable feature of the geography and culture of Malaysia. A Chinese temple in Malacca City, practicing the Three Doctrinal Systems of Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. It is the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia. Founded in the 1640s. The main prayer hall was completed in 1704. Received a UNESCO award for outstanding architectural restoration in 2003. This site holds particular significance in the history of Malaysia, from the Malacca Sultanate through British colonial rule to independence in 1957. Like many notable places in Malaysia, it combines regional character with the legacy of the multicultural Malay-Chinese-Indian society and the tropics.
