The Ndoto Mountains are a memorable granite range located in northern Kenya within Samburu County. They form part of the rugged landscape of the Northern Frontier District, rising steeply from the surrounding semi-arid savannah. The highest peak, Poiri, reaches an elevation of 2,636 meters above sea level. The mountains are renowned for their isolated cloud forests in the summit regions, which provide a stark contrast to the dry heat of the plains below. These ecological islands host unique flora and fauna, including rare orchids and specialized bird species. The area is traditionally utilized by the Samburu people for grazing their livestock, with the mountains offering vital water sources particularly during the dry seasons. Access to the region is challenging due to its remote location and sparse infrastructure, which has helped maintain the pristine state of the landscape. Geologically, the Ndoto Mountains are part of the Neoproterozoic Mozambique Belt, which characterizes much of East Africa's basement complex.
