Catherine's Peak

Catherine's Peak is the highest point in the parish of St. Andrew, Jamaica, rising to an elevation of approximately 1,530 meters within the Blue Mountains range. Named after Catherine Blundell, who reportedly became the first woman to ascend the peak in 1760, the mountain holds significant historical and geographical importance. It serves as a vital watershed for the surrounding region, with its pristine springs providing the source for Jamaica's leading brand of natural mineral water. The area is characterized by dense tropical cloud forests that support a diverse array of endemic flora, including various species of bromeliads and orchids. Geologically, the peak is part of the Blue Mountain Inlier, featuring a complex mix of volcanic and metamorphic rocks dating back to the Cretaceous period.
