Amarna Ruins (Egypt)

Weather…

Amarna, known in ancient times as Akhetaten ('Horizon of the Aten'), was the short-lived capital of Egypt established by Pharaoh Akhenaten during the 18th Dynasty. Around 1346 BC, Akhenaten broke with traditional polytheistic religious practices and built this city in Middle Egypt to worship the sun disk, Aten, as the sole deity. The city was constructed rapidly using mudbricks and featured sprawling palaces, grand open-air temples, and elaborate rock-cut tombs for the elite. Following Akhenaten's death, his religious reforms were dismantled, the city was abandoned, and its stone structures were largely dismantled for reuse elsewhere. Today, Amarna is a unique archaeological site as it provides a nearly complete floor plan of an ancient Egyptian city, including residential quarters and administrative buildings. It is also the site where the world-famous bust of Nefertiti was discovered in the workshop of the sculptor Thutmose.
