The estate features a stately main house built in 1886, expansive tropical gardens, and a three-story tower where the author often retreated to write. The gardens are home to diverse flora and the famous swimming pool frequented by Hollywood stars during the mid-20th century. A key attraction on the grounds is Hemingway's beloved fishing boat, the 'Pilar,' which is permanently displayed under a protective canopy. Following Hemingway's death in 1961, the property was converted into a museum, meticulously preserving the original interior, his library of over 9,000 books, and personal artifacts. The tranquil environment of the gardens, offering sweeping views of Havana, inspired much of his later work, including 'The Old Man and the Sea.'
