Mount Putuo
Situated in the Zhoushan Archipelago of Zhejiang Province, Mount Putuo is renowned as one of China's Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains and is dedicated to Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. The island is dotted with numerous temples, the most prominent being Puji, Fayu, and Huiji, along with the iconic 33-meter-tall statue of Guanyin overlooking the sea. Beyond its spiritual significance, Putuoshan provides beautiful coastal scenery with golden sandy beaches, lush greenery, and the soothing sound of ocean waves. It provides a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can engage in meditation, explore hidden caves, or walk along ancient stone paths. The local seafood and vegetarian temple meals are highly recommended. Access to the island is strictly by ferry, typically departing from Shenjiamen in Zhoushan or Ningbo. Motor vehicles are restricted on the island, enhancing its tranquil atmosphere. The well-suited seasons to visit are spring and autumn, particularly around Guanyin’s birthday or enlightenment days, when the weather is mild and the spiritual energy is at its peak.
