Bohai Sea (China)

Weather…

The Bohai Sea is a shallow, semi-enclosed marginal sea of the Yellow River in Northeast China, covering an area of approximately 77,000 square kilometers. It is bounded by the Liaodong Peninsula to the north and the Shandong Peninsula to the south, connecting to the Yellow Sea through the Bohai Strait. The sea is the final destination for several major rivers, including the Yellow River (Huang He), the Hai He, and the Liao He, which deposit vast amounts of silt into its basin. As a result, it is remarkably shallow, with an average depth of only 18 meters and a maximum depth of around 70 meters. Historically, the Bohai Sea served as the maritime gateway to Beijing, protected by coastal fortresses. Today, it is an economic powerhouse hosting massive ports like Tianjin and Dalian and contains significant offshore oil and gas reserves. However, its enclosed nature makes it highly vulnerable to industrial pollution and ecological degradation.
