Anshan, situated in the center of Liaoning Province, is widely known as the "Steel Capital of China" and is home to one of the largest steel companies in the country. The city's industrial development was significantly driven by the rich iron ore deposits in the surrounding area, which began to be exploited as early as the early 20th century. Besides its industrial importance, Anshan gives remarkable cultural and religious sites, such as the Jade Buddha Palace, which houses the world's largest Buddha statue carved from a single piece of jade. West of the city lies the Qianshan National Park, known as the "Mountain of a Thousand Peaks," famous for its bizarre rock formations, ancient pines, and numerous Buddhist and Taoist temples. Geographically, Anshan is located at the transition between the central Liaoning plain and the eastern mountain ranges, resulting in a varied landscape. The city has a long history dating back to the Warring States period and has always been a strategically important point in the Northeast. Today, Anshan is striving to diversify its economy and improve environmental quality to complete the transition from a purely industrial city to a modern urban center.
