National Heroes Square (Barbados)

Weather…

National Heroes Square is the historic and civic heart of Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. Formerly known as Trafalgar Square since its inception in the early 19th century, it was renamed in 1999 to honor the ten individuals officially designated as National Heroes of Barbados. The square is surrounded by some of the island's most significant architecture, most notably the coral-limestone Parliament Buildings, which feature striking Gothic-style windows and a clock tower. For decades, a statue of Admiral Lord Nelson stood here, predating the famous version in London, but it was relocated in 2020 to align the space with contemporary Barbadian values. Another prominent feature is the Dolphin Fountain, commemorating the arrival of piped water to the city in 1865. The square serves as a focal point for national celebrations and parades, offering visitors a profound look into the political evolution and cultural pride of this Caribbean nation.
