Brighton Great House (Barbados)

Weather…

Located in the lush parish of St. George, Brighton Great House is one of the most historically significant plantation homes in Barbados, dating back to the mid-17th century. It is exceptionally rare for its long-standing family ownership, which has preserved much of its original character and architectural integrity. The house features traditional Caribbean Georgian elements, including thick coral stone walls and expansive wrap-around porches designed to capture the northeast trade winds. Historically, the estate was a hub for sugar production and is famous for its vintage rum cellar, once the heart of the Brighton Rum brand. Today, while the house remains a private residence, the grounds transform every Saturday morning into a bustling Farmers' Market. This market is a cornerstone of the local community, offering organic produce, local crafts, and breakfast delicacies. A visit to Brighton features a unique blend of historical exploration and a chance to experience the modern Barbadian agricultural lifestyle in a serene, park-like setting.
